We have created the "Anchovy Museum," a fitting recognition of this small fish that has given and continues to give great popularity in the world to our small town, Aspra. We are trying to recover and defend our tradition of preserving the salted anchovy, thanks to careful research of historical material and documents. Inside the museum, a photographic exhibition, titled "Images of Life in Time," gives us a fragment of the history of Aspra and its seafaring traditions. The small museum, is every year, a destination for many visitors, from all over the world.

THE LEGEND OF THE ANCHOVIES

"Many and many years ago, so many that you cannot imagine how many, there shone in the sky a numerous family of stars; tiny little stars, but very bright: perhaps the brightest stars in the whole celestial universe. They were called Engraulines and they were very, very vain."

According to legend, the Engraulines were punished by God for their stubborn vanity, and from heaven thrown into the sea. They were called, "from then on and forever, simply anchovies."
